Shoppers type the way they talk: _“comfy sneakers under $60”_, _“blue hoodie in XL”_, _“boots on sale”_, _“what is your return policy?”_. The assistant replies with matching product cards, quotes your own policy pages, and can add items straight to the cart. It runs entirely on your WordPress server. **No OpenAI, no API keys, no monthly fees, and no customer data sent anywhere.** Every reply comes from your own products and pages, so it never invents prices, stock or promises. #### Help shoppers find products faster * Understands budgets: “under 50”, “between 20 and 40”, “around 30” * Understands sorting and filters: cheapest, best rated, newest, on sale, in stock * Understands colours, sizes and preferences like comfortable, lightweight, gift or kids * Follow-ups just work: “cheaper”, “in red”, “show more”, “only on sale” * Every product card says _why_ it was picked: within budget, on sale, comes in blue, rated 4.5 #### Turn conversations into sales * **Add to cart from the chat**: “add 2 wired earphones”, “make the mouse 3”, “ remove the earphones”, “checkout” * **Variable products**: the bot asks for the missing option (“Which colour?”) with one-tap choices * **Product comparison**: “compare X and Y” shows price, sale, rating, stock and options side by side * **Approved coupons only**: suggests only the codes you list, and skips expired ones * **Lead capture**: after unanswered questions, or when a shopper asks for a human, the bot collects an email * The theme’s mini-cart updates live, for guests and logged-in customers #### Answer store questions automatically * Tick your shipping, returns, warranty or payment pages and the bot quotes the right paragraph, with a link * **Order helper**: logged-in customers can check their recent orders and status( never anyone else’s) * **Blocked topics**: stop conversations about subjects you don’t want to discuss #### Design it with a live preview * Style the launcher, header, colours, shape and layout, and see the real working chat update as you go * Set the greeting, quick-reply chips, no-answer message and where the chat appears * Show it on every page or only on shop, product, cart, checkout and account pages #### Learn what your customers want * **Insights**: searches, product opens, add-to-cart, checkout clicks, comparisons and coupon use, over 7, 30 or 90 days * **Unanswered questions**: see what shoppers asked that the bot couldn’t answer, so you can fill the gaps * **Conversations and leads**: read transcripts and export them as CSV #### Private and lightweight * No external services, no tracking scripts, no IP addresses stored * Configurable retention, with old conversations pruned automatically * Settings import and export as JSON ### How answers are produced Nothing is generated. Every reply is a template or a quote from your own content. 1. **Product index**: one row per visible product (title, SKU, price, sale, stock, rating, sales, categories, tags, attributes, colours, sizes, description) with full-text keys. Rows refresh when a product is saved. 2. **Language rules**: `includes/rules-en.php` lists the phrases the bot understands( prices, sorting, filters, colours, sizes, preferences, small talk, product questions and policy topics). 3. **Search**: constraints become database filters, the remaining words run as a full- text search with fallbacks, and preference words boost ranking. If a budget returns nothing, it is relaxed and the reply says so. 4. **Policy pages**: the pages you tick are split into paragraphs under their headings; a policy question gets the best-matching paragraph, quoted word for word, with a link. ### For developers REST endpoints: * `POST /wp-json/webangon-chat-assistant/v1/chat` with `{ "message", "session" }` * `POST /wp-json/webangon-chat-assistant/v1/event` with `{ "event": "product_open |checkout_click|chip", "product_id", "label", "session" }` * `POST /wp-json/webangon-chat-assistant/v1/lead` with `{ "email", "name", "message"," page", "session" }` Rate limits per hashed IP per 5 minutes: chat 30, event 120, lead 5. IP addresses are not stored. ### Privacy The plugin makes no external requests. Sessions store the last search context and the message log, never IP addresses. Retention is configurable and a daily task prunes old sessions. Upload the plugin to `wp-content/plugins/`, or install it from **Plugins > Add New**, then activate it. 3. Go to **Chat Assistant > Knowledge & Index** and click **Rebuild** to index your products, then tick your policy pages. 4. Style the chat under **Design** and try it in the live preview. The chat now appears on your store. ## FAQ ### Does it use ChatGPT or another AI service? No. Nothing is sent to an external service and no API key is needed. The assistant matches questions against your own product catalogue and pages, so every answer is based on your store’s real data. ### Will it make up prices or promises? No. Replies are built from templates and quotes of your own content. It cannot invent discounts, stock levels or policies. ### Which languages does it understand? English out of the box. Developers can add another rules file and switch to it with the `wbnchat_rules` filter. ### Does it work with variable products? Yes. When a product has options, the bot asks for the missing colour or size and then adds the right variation to the cart. ### Does it work for guests? Yes. Guests can search, compare and add to cart. The order helper is only available to logged-in customers, and only shows their own orders. ### What happens when the bot can’t answer? It shows your fallback message and logs the question under **Chat Assistant > Unanswered**.
